Too often we hear the same old arguing and fighting from our elected officials over circumstances they have no power to change. That’s not serving constituents — that’s pandering for votes. I have a responsibility to work on the issues that affect your daily lives, and I’m committed to staying focused and completing the considerable tasks ahead of us.
Economy & Jobs
Tennessee, like the rest of the country, has been hit hard by the ongoing recession that has hurt our families, our factories and our communities. State lawmakers must make job creation and protection their top priorities. Only when we put Tennesseans back to work will we be able to start improving our quality of life and fulfilling our hopes of giving our children a better future.
Improving Education
Today, students must learn more than ever to be prepared for changing job markets in a volatile economy. A good education must do more than increase test scores — it must give our children the best chance possible to obtain a well-paying job and one day be able to provide for a family of their own. I’m committed to continuing to increase education standards while supporting teachers along the way.
Protecting Seniors
When I first started talking to people about serving in the state Senate, one set of issues came up time and time again: those affecting our seniors. As the boomer generation grows older, we will face unprecedented challenges in making sure our seniors receive quality care and have a voice in decisions that will affect them.
Tennessee Values
I’m committed to fighting for upholding what I call our Tennessee Values: Honor. Respect. A commitment to working hard and sacrificing for the good of others. I strive to uphold these values in the legislature, and I firmly believe that lawmakers can always do more to show they are committed to working for the people, not special interests.
