NASHVILLE – State Sen. Lowe Finney (D-Jackson) congratulated officials in Bruceton, Gibson County and McKenzie for successfully procuring $100,000 each in federal energy efficiency grants announced this month.
“Our local governments are to be commended for growing jobs by applying for these grants,” Finney said. “These funds will put people back to work, save taxpayer dollars and increase both energy and government efficiency.”
The grants are as follows:
- Bruceton will receive $100,000 for lighting, HVAC, window, door and insulation retrofits at Town Hall and traffic signal replacement.
- Gibson County will receive $100,000 for lighting, HVAC, window, door and insulation retrofits at the county courthouse.
- McKenzie will receive $100,000 for street light and traffic signal replacement with LEDs.
The grants will give installers and retrofitters valuable training and experience for private sector companies as they expand their energy efficiency programs. The award winners are part of 42 additional Tennessee cities and counties that were awarded approximately $3.8 million in the second round of federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The announcement comes just months after $9.2 million in EECBG grants was distributed to 100 Tennessee cities and counties.
“The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has allowed the state to help Tennessee communities take a step in the right direction for energy conservation,” said Governor Phil Bredesen. “I’m pleased to see more cities and counties will have the opportunity to use Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants to make strategic investments in our state’s clean energy future.”
